"Crime Cats: The Deadly Scarab" Named 2017 Book of the Year!

I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday season. I was very fortunate to wrap up 2017 by finding out Crime Cats: The Deadly Scarab was named 2017 Book of the Year by Australian author, Rosie Malezer's, Cathood Press. This means a lot to me because in addition to being an author, Rosie  is a prolific book reviewer and has worked as a vet tech and fosters kittens, so she knows her fiction—and her cats. My thanks to her for bestowing upon me this honor. What a wonderful way to say goodbye to 2017.

Cat Welfare Open House, October 15, 2017

Well, I'm playing catch up with news posts. I've been a busy guy and my phone is super-old, so it's very time consuming to transfer photos onto the computer I'm using, since my machine died.

I attended the Cat Welfare open house in October, which, aside from the strong wind gusts, was wonderful. It allowed me an opportunity to see some of the art the current readers in the Crime Cats Mystery Club had posted on the bulletin board. Here are a few of my favorites in this gallery:

I also got to visit my favorite resident, Sherbet, whose hot spots have cleared up.

Unfortunately my attempt to capture all of the action going on didn't happen. They had a live jazz group, who were quite good, and there was food and vendors and games.

I did visit with one particular vendor and learned her story. Anna and her mom were set up and raised $100  selling the bath bombs, soaps, candles, and the cicada jewelry that Anna makes herself. Anna uses the money from her sales to purchase American Dolls that she donates to Children's Hospital. You can read more about Anna and her crusade to provide dolls to children who are fighting cancer. You can find out more by visiting Anna's FB page.

More posts coming soon about my author visit to Indianola Informal school and the amazing projects the classes there did. Stay tuned.
