"Caturday" Was a Success!
June 24, 2016 was "Caturday" at Laughing Ogre Comics in Columbus, Ohio. Caturday was a fund raiser and supply drive organized by the Ogre to benefit my friends at Cat Welfare Association (CWA). I'm honored to have been invited to take part.
Thanks to Crime Cats readers, the Crime Cats Relief Fund donated 100lbs. of clay litter, 2 corn brooms, 3 packs of sponges, and 20 rolls of paper towels to help CWA staff and volunteers care for the homeless cats in their care.
These supplies were added to the donations collected at Laughing Ogre over the last month—and what a haul! My thanks to everyone who generously donated supplies and food to the drive. It felt so good to see the community getting behind CWA and all the great work they do.
As soon as I had unloaded the supplies, we go set up and the fun began. Cat Welfare volunteer, Steve, set up a cage and populated it with a litter of two-month-old kittens, who are available for adoption. Attendees were invited to pet and hold the kittens, who wasted no time in melting hearts.
And they didn't stop there. The kittens also helped sell some Crime Cats books.
I was very happy to make some new readers, who were super-excited to dive into the whole series. But after the sale was done, I couldn't leave without casting my vote for the "Cutest Cat" photo contest. The winner is yet to be announced, but I have my favorite.
My thanks to Gib and the other Ogres for pulling this together and inviting me to participate; to the CWA volunteers, who were wonderful with the kittens and guests—especially the gent who endured the heat in the CWA mascot costume for 3 hours; and to all of the new readers I met. I'm so proud have have been a part of such a wonderful event and I hope this won't be the last!
